Zoning Board of Appeals Public Hearing

REQUEST FOR SIDE YARD SETBACK VARIANCE At 17121 20 ½ Mile Road

Notice is hereby given that the Marengo Township Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., in the Township Hall, located at 14021 23 Mile Rd, Albion, Michigan, to hear citizens’ comments regarding a proposed variance to replace an 800 square foot accessory building that is undersized with a 2,560 square foot accessory building in violation side yard setback in the “AG” Agricultural zoning district. The Marengo Township Zoning Ordinance requires a 20-foot side yard setback.

The proposed accessory building is located at 17121 20 ½ Mile Road, permanent parcel number 15 041 018 21. The applicant and property owner requesting the variance is Ben Hendler and Sara Heidenreich Hendler.

The hearing is required by the MICHIGAN ZONING ENABLING ACT, Act 110 of 2006 and the Township Zoning Ordinance. The purpose of the hearing is to consider the compatibility of the proposed use with the surrounding neighborhood. The Zoning Board of Appeals will evaluate the proposal in accordance with Section 22.09 of the township zoning ordinance.

All interested persons are invited to attend the public hearing to express concerns or offer support. Written comments may be submitted to the Zoning Board of Appeals in lieu of personal appearance.
